John
4
43 At
the end of the two days, Jesus went on to Galilee.
44 He
himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his own hometown.
45 Yet
the Galileans welcomed him,
for
they had been in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration
and
had seen everything he did there.
46 As
he traveled through Galilee, he came to Cana, where he had turned the
water into wine.
There
was a government official in nearby Capernaum whose son was very
sick.
47 When
he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and
begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son, who was about to
die.
48 Jesus asked, "Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?"
49 The
official pleaded, "Lord, please come now before my little boy
dies."
50 Then
Jesus told him, "Go back home. Your son will live!"
And
the man believed what Jesus said and started home.
51 While
the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news
that his son was alive and well.
52 He
asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied,
"Yesterday
afternoon at one o'clock his fever suddenly disappeared!"
53 Then
the father realized that that was the very time Jesus had told him,
"Your
son will live."
And
he and his entire household believed in Jesus.
This
father had traveled a day journey to see Jesus.
His
son was dying.
He
plead Jesus to come & heal his little boy.
Jesus
tells the father to go home – that his son will live.
The
father heads back home.
The
next day, his servants who had been traveling to him, meet him on the
road & tell him that his son has been healed.
We
don't think this story is remarkable because we know the ending.
But
let's pretend...
Let's
say it's your child who is sick.
You
probably go a day's journey to find a rabbi who people are saying
heals people.
Today,
if you were to drive for a day, you could easily go 700 miles.
But
if you fly, you can be really far away – literally on the other
side of the world, thousands of miles away.
Let's
say you went to see some dude that people said was healing little
children of some dreaded disease...
Would
you be willing to get back in your car & drive 700 miles back
home just on this rabbi's say so?
Would
you get right back on a plane & fly home on the other side of the
world simply because this rabbi told you your little boy was gonna be
ok?
That's
what this father did.
Is
that what you would do?
Do
we trust God enough to be & do things for Him just on His say so?
Are
we willing to follow His lead just because we believe He told us
where to go & what to be & do?
I
mean, really, do we trust Him THAT much?
Many
times, it seems that the miraculous & the miracles in our lives
don't happen while we're standing right there, communicating &
connecting with Jesus.
They
often times seem to happen “while we are on our way”, as we move
toward what God seems to have led us to be & do.
Just
a thought...
