It's
all about love.
It
seems that love is the single most important factor & facet of
anything & anyone.
It
also seems that these days that fact & truth becomes more &
more dim as each day passes.
It
seems our capacity & willingness to love becomes more blunted,
stunted, & shunted as we move further & further into this
world we've created.
There
is much that is said these days about what we should or should not be
or do as persons, let alone as followers of Jesus.
But
it would seem that the thing the New Testament would indicate we
should be & do the most is to love.
And
it would seem that that very attribute is in the shortest supply
amongst those of us who claim to follow Jesus.
And
why is that?
Because
loving is less an emotion & more of a choice.
And
we have chosen to go whoring for other things like power, position,
control, & religious freedom when our world has an overwhelming
paucity of simple people who will be as Jesus was – loving - &
do what Jesus did – loving others.
Here's
what Paul had to say in his letter to the the followers of Jesus
living in Rome...
Romans 13
8 Pay
all of your debts,
except the debt of love to others.
You can never finish paying that!
If you love your neighbor, you will
fulfill the requirements of God's law.
9 For
the commandments say,
"You must not commit adultery.
You must not murder.
You must not steal.
You must not covet."
These—and other such
commandments—are summed up in this one commandment:
"Love your neighbor as
yourself."
10 Love
does no wrong to others,
so love fulfills the requirements
of God's law.
11 This
is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running
out.
Wake up, for our salvation is
nearer now than when we first believed.
12 The
night is almost gone;
the day of salvation will soon be
here.
So remove your dark deeds like
dirty clothes,
and put on the shining armor of
right living.
13 Because
we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see.
Don't participate in the darkness
of wild parties and drunkenness,
or in sexual promiscuity and
immoral living,
or in quarreling and jealousy.
14 Instead,
clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
And don't let yourself think about
ways to indulge your evil desires.
