mustard seed & yeast

 Luke 13

Parable of the Mustard Seed

18 Then Jesus said, 

“What is the Kingdom of God like? 

How can I illustrate it? 

19 It is like a tiny mustard seed 

that someone planted in a garden; 

it grows 

and becomes a tree, 

and the birds make nests in its branches.”

(dan note: this is a true illustration. I grew up on a farm. Mustard seeds are about as big as the head of a pin. I seen them grow up during the summer to over 6' tall & about 3' wide. And small birds sometimes really do build nests in among the branches."

Parable of the Yeast

20 He also asked, 

“What else is the Kingdom of God like? 

21 It is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. 

Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, 

it permeated every part of the dough.”

(dan note: then I guess Jesus is saying here that we are to slowly infiltrate everything thing & everyone around us with the love & acceptance that Jesus has for all?)
