cut off at the knees

1 Corinthians 10:13

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience.

And God is faithful.

He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.

When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. (NLT)

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.

And God is faithful;

he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.

But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (NIV)

 No temptation has come your way that is too hard for flesh and blood to bear.

But God can be trusted not to allow you to suffer any temptation beyond your powers of endurance.

He will see to it that every temptation has a way out,

so that it will never be impossible for you to bear it. (JB Phillips)

No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face.

All you need to remember is that God will never let you down;

he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit;

he’ll always be there to help you come through it. (The Message)

Any temptation you face will be nothing new.

But God is faithful,

and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can handle.

But He always provides a way of escape so that you will be able to endure and keep moving forward. (The Voice)

Ok, I quoted these different translations & The Message paraphrase so as to make sure we know what we're talking about here.

Paul makes a statement is this verse that really cuts us off at the knees.

Here's what he has to say about temptation – something we all face, & sometimes sin as a result.

Whatever is tempting us, it ain't anything that most people have also faced before.

But God isn't gonna let us be tempted beyond what we can stand up to.

AND, on top of that, God is always gonna PROVIDE A WAY for us to resist it.

Think about that!

I guess that stops us from using “I couldn't help myself”.

Or “It was just so strong & I was so weak”.

Then there's the ever popular “I'm only human”.

I'm sure we all could provide a list of different excuses.

Nope.

None of them have any feet or legs.

God's provided a way to keep from falling down under the power of whatever is tempting us.

Can you let this sink in?

How many of us don't tap into this?

We don't have to succumb to any temptation that comes along...

God isn't gonna let anything hit us we can't handle & plus,

He's gonna give us a way to keep from falling on our face into it.

Does that make your head explode any more than it does me?!
