scandalous

Hebrews 4

12 For the word of God is alive and powerful.

It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword,

cutting between soul and spirit,

between joint and marrow.

It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God.

Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes,

and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven,

Jesus the Son of God,

let us hold firmly to what we believe.

15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses,

for he faced all of the same testings we do,

yet he did not sin.

16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.

There we will receive his mercy,

and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

So, we will give an account to God for all we've been & done?

And He knows everything we've ever been & done – especially the stuff we think that nobody knows?

I think some people act as if they're never gonna have to answer for the person they've become nor the things they've said & done.

Sometimes I think I act like I think that way.

But the hook here in this passage is that Jesus will step in to interceded for us.

iow, He will step in & initiate mercy for all the sinful stuff we've been & done,

& God will extend infinite grace to us,

so that God, who is infinitely holy, can coexist with us, who seem to be infinitely sinful.

Bottom line?

We won't be disconnected from God because sinfulness & holiness cannot coexist in the same environs.

Jesus steps in.

God is merciful.

He offers unmitigated, undeserved grace to us, not just generally, but specifically.

If you think about it, that's pretty scandalous...

even though we're sinners, jusg because we believe that Jesus is not only the sacrifice for our sins & sinfulness,

but is the priestly person interceding for us,

we get let into God's eternal presence.

Scandalous...
