Psalm
106:24
The
people refused to enter the pleasant land,
for
they wouldn't believe his promise to care for them.
Let
me amplify that sad, sad verse so we can all understand what's going
on here.
The
newly release from Egypt children of Israel refused to enter the
Promised Land of Canaan,
for
these Hebrews wouldn't believe the promise from omnipotent God of the
universes to take care of them as they invaded Canaan.
These
are the people who watched God send plagues on Egypt – including
one where the firstborn of every Egyptian, including Pharaoh, was
killed – yet they were unharmed.
These
are the people who watched the Red Sea part, walked across the Red
Sea on dry land, & then saw the Red Sea swallow if & kill
Pharaoh's army.
They
say a pillar of smoke form over them during the day to shade them in
the brutal desert as they traveled to Canaan.
They
lived with a pillar of fire by night given to them to give them light
to see by & something to keep them warm.
And
they saw a whole lot of other stuff along the way that God was taking
care of them as they traveled to Canaan.
But
for some reason, when they got to Canaan, they saw the task at hand
of conquering the land & just slam didn't believe God would come
through for them.
Amazing,
isn't it?!
But
before we consign the Hebrews to a status of dumber than dirt, think
about this...
how
many of us live our lives witnessing how God comes through for us
time & time again,
and
then He challenges us to trust Him on something (big or small) &
we're hesitant to be it or do it because we're not completely sure
He'll come through for us?
Yeah,
we're just like those children of Israel saying no to God at the
border of Canaan – we just don't trust Him. Yes, He has come
through before, but we're just not real sure if He will on this
particular situation.
I
know I'm like that – I know you are too.
In
the last 5 years particularly, I have been challenged again &
again by this simple thought...
I
either trust Him, or I don't.
Judging
from the whining that has defined my life, I would say I don't.
I'm
just like the children of Israel.
How
about you?
