There
were 2 sections I read this morning that I couldn't decide which to
share...
...so
I share them both
Jesus
is speaking in this 1st
passage...
Mark 8
34 Then,
calling the crowd to join his disciples, Jesus said,
"If any of you wants to be my
follower,
you must turn from your
selfish ways,
take up your cross,
and follow me.
35 If
you try to hang on to your life,
you will lose it.
But if you give up your life for my
sake and for the sake of the Good News,
you will save it.
36 And
what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own
soul?
37 Is
anything worth more than your soul?
38 If
anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful
days,
the Son of Man will be
ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father
with the holy angels."
I also think of verse 36 & 36
whenever someone famous dies.
And I wonder what they would say to
us, if they could
********
And Paul wrote what he knew were some
of he last things he would say to Timothy, his beloved son that he
“come by”...
2 Preach
the word of God.
Be prepared, whether the time is
favorable or not.
Patiently correct,
rebuke,
and encourage your people with
good teaching.
3 For
a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and
wholesome teaching.
They will follow their own
desires
and will look for teachers who
will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.
4 They
will reject the truth and chase after myths.
5 But
you should keep a clear mind in every situation.
Don't be afraid of suffering for
the Lord.
Work at telling others the Good
News,
and fully carry out the ministry
God has given you.
The Lord encourages us to be & do
the same things Paul told Timothy to be & do.
And Paul describes our world in verses
3 & 4.
