Jesus
also used this illustration:
“The
Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread.
Even
though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour,
it
permeated
every part of the dough.”
Matthew 13:33
What's
Jesus saying here?
I
don't know if you've ever worked with yeast, but getting it to do
it's job in a bowl of flour is pretty easy.
You
mix it in, cover the bowl, put it in a warm place, & let the
yeast be yeast & do it's job.
What
is yeast?
“a
microscopic fungus consisting of single oval cells that reproduce by
budding, and are capable of converting sugar into alcohol and carbon
dioxide.”
And
it's the carbon dioxide that causes bread to “rise”.
If
left alone, yeast will eventually permeate
the whole amount of bread mix in the container.
You
see the parallels...
We
as followers of Jesus just have to be ourselves, let the love of
Jesus not only live in us but naturally come out, & eventually
the Jesus in us will affect the people & situations around us.
Don't
think so?
How
many of us have someone in our families, or neighborhoods, or in our
churches, that are just class a jerks?
Those
jerky people affect the whole atmosphere we are in by simply being
the jerks that they are – they don't have to try – their
negativity simply permeates.
The
opposite is true.
How
many of us have someone in our lives somewhere who is just a joy to
be around?
And
those people change the feeling of the group or situation by just
showing up & being who they are.
Yeah...
And
what does Jesus challenge us to be?
I
think it said something about how the world will know us by the
quality of our love for others?
Hmmmmmm...
Be
yeast today.
Be
who we are as a follower of Jesus.
Let
the love of Jesus channel through us to the people around us.
And
leave the results up to Him.
Just
a thought...
