Remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience.
And God is faithful.
He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it.
When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (1st ed.)
This is Paul, writing to the followers of Jesus in Corinth.
And basically, what is he saying?
No excuses.
Look at this verse...
What does he say in the first sentence?
I think he says we ain't so special.
Whatever it is the devil is beating our brains out with is the same or just like the temptations everyone else has.
What about the second sentence?
We ain't alone in this - God knows what's going on & has got our 6.
And the third sentence?
We can't say I just couldn't help myself, I was just overwhelmed, or it was stronger than me.
Paul says God ain't gonna let it get that bad.
Remember that...
And finally in sentence 4?
We DON'T have to give in.
God ALWAYS provides a way out.
Always.
Is this a kick butt verse, or what?
No excuses.
We ain't got a leg to stand on.
NO MATTER WHAT any of us are facing every day, no matter our history of success or failure in dealing with any temptation, Paul says God always provides us a way to resist - always.
So, why don't we try putting it into our basic psyche, our modus operandi, the way we face down temptations, not matter the type, no matter how we've given in before?
If we believe the Bible is the word of God, then what Paul says here is the truth.
And if so, we can face down the hurricane of temptations we face each day?
