What would we write in a final letter to our child?
That's what 2 Timothy is - Paul's last letter to his adopted son, Timothy.
Paul says some poignant things...
4:9 Timothy, please come as soon as you can.
4:11a Only Luke is with me.
4:11b Bring Mark with you when you come...
4:13 When you come, be sure to bring the coat I left with Carpus at Troas. Also bring my books, and especially my papers.
4:21 ...come before winter.
Small things, stuff we'd only say to our child.
But
Paul also gives him simply & strong direction, probably for the
last time - I would think we would reserve some of the most important at
a time like that.
Paul said,
4:2 Preach the word of God.
Be prepared, whether the time
is favorable or not.
Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your
people with good teaching.
4:5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation.
Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord.
Work at telling others the
Good News.
Complete the ministry God has given you.
"Complete the ministry God has given you."
Good words for the adopted son of the man who wrote half the New Testament.
Good words for you & me, too.
Keep on...
