Peter wraps it up

I'm getting a sense that verse 5 may be once of the verses for me to hold on to during 2016.

I'm also going to wait a few days & see if the verses from 5b -12b that I've shared here might be a whole passage for me to remember this coming year.

God's given me more than one verse over the last 12 years, but I've never felt like a longer passage like this was something that pertained to a whole year.

We'll see about that in the days ahead – maybe it is, maybe not. The Holy Spirit will confirm it one way or another.

There's just a lot of good stuff in these verses for each of us.

Read them slowly, & let the Holy Spirit speak to you through them in regards to your life & your connection with God.

I don't know where y'all are in your walk with Him, but I know there's stuff here for all of us.

Verse 7 & 12b stand out for me. Maybe they will for you too. Or maybe some of the others will speak to something in your life.

It is supposed by some that Peter wrote this while in Rome.

In verse 1 of chapter 1, Peter says he's writing to “God's chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia”, which were provinces in what is now Turkey.

1 Peter 5

5b And all of you, serve each other in humility, for

"God opposes the proud

but favors the humble."
(dan note: that's from Proverbs 3:34)

6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God,

and in good time He will honor you.

7 Give all your worries and cares to God,

for he cares about you.

8 Be careful!

Watch out for attacks from the devil, your great enemy.

He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

9 Stand firm against Him,

and be strong in your faith.

Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.

10 In his kindness God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus.

So after you have suffered a little while,

He will restore,

support,

and strengthen you,

and he will place you on a firm foundation.

12b ...the grace of God is with you no matter what happens.
