Matthew 16

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, 

"If any of you wants to be my follower, 

you must put aside your selfish ambition, 

take up your cross, 

and follow me.

25 If you try to hang on to your life, 

you will lose it. 

But if you give up your life for my sake, 

you will save it.

26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? 

Is anything worth more than your soul?



what do you benefit if you (get the opportunity to play for your 6th Super Bowl ring) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you (will one day be the king of the United Kingdom) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you (are the head of state & the leader of a nation) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you are drop dead gorgeous, are filthy rich, & just got nominated for an oscar) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you (have pecs big enough for a bra, a 12 pack of abs, a jeep lifted 6", & 6 deer heads on the wall in the den) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you (have a kool job, a kool spouse, a kool house, lots of kool stuff, fill a square each week by going to church & dozing off) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you (spend your whole life thinking only of yourself, making yourself the center of your universe) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you (think you're a hot mess for God, that He should be glad you're a Christian, & wisdom drips from your lips) but lose your own soul? 


what do you benefit if you...?

So many of the things we think are important really aren't

So many of the people we think are so grand & wonderful really aren't.

So much of what captures our attention & time doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
