John 7:37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds,
"Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!
38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink!
For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'"
39 (When
he said "living water," he was speaking of the Spirit,
who would be
given to everyone believing in him.
But the Spirit had not yet been
given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)
We are all thirsty.
Iow, we all long for "something"
We
all try to quench that thirst. All we have to do is look around us at
people, let alone look within our own selves, to see the seemingly
infinite ways we try to quench that thirst.
That thirst, that longing, I believe, is a longing we all have for intimate contact with God.
We may quantify it in many different ways, we may call it by a plethora of names, but that's what it all boils down to.
As
we close out this year & move into another, let's open our hearts
& lives to God, who will end the longings & thirsts we all have,
& find a home w/ Him.
