a wholelot of stuff

Here's some verses that stood out when I read @ Samuel 7 & Psalm 62 this morning. I feel like someone just needs to be comforted by them today.

What more can I say? You know what I am really like, Sovereign Lord. 2 Samuel 7:20

I wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. He along is my rock &my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. Psalm 62:5, 6

O my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8

Now, here's what stood out in Colossians 2...

Colossians 2

6
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.

7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.

Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught,

and you will overflow with thankfulness.

8 Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense

that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world,

     rather than from Christ.

9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.

10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ,

who is the head over every ruler and authority.

11 When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure.

Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature.

12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized.

And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God,

who raised Christ from the dead.

13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away.

Then God made you alive with Christ,

for he forgave all our sins.

14 He canceled the record of the charges against us

and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

15
In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities.

He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

"Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him."

How can we do this?

Read the Bible every day, without fail.

I know y'all get tired of hearing me say that.

All I know is all I know.

If we read the Bible ever day, God talks to us.

And the longer we read the Bible,& the more we listen out for what He may say through what we read, the deeper & deeper our roots end up growing down into Him. It's just the way it is - I speak from experience from reading the Bible every day, without fail, since January, 2003.

If I was going to have a headstone - I won't because I'm gonna be cremated - I would have carved on it these words: "Read the Bible every day, without fail."

If you remember anything about me when I'm gone, remember i loved you, & "read the Bible every day, without fail."

"you also are complete through your union with Christ..."

"You were dead because of your sins..."

"God made you alive with Christ..., for he forgave all our sins."

The older I get, the more aware of how really sinful I am.

But Paul says over & over that our sins are forgiven.

And that because our sins are forgiven, God starts the process of making us new again, giving us new life ("For I make all things new." Jesus)

The infinitely holy God of the universes chooses to forgive our sins (& forget them) & make us knew.

Here's a song that goes along with that last thought - I know it's kinda old school, but hey, listen to it anyway ;-)

And here's the lyrics..

Morgan Cryar – What Sin Lyrics

It happened so long ago
And I cried out for mercy back then
I plead the blood of Jesus
Begged him to forgive my sin
But I still can't forget it
It just won't go away
So I wept again, "Lord wash my sin,"
But this is all He'd say

[Chorus]
What sin, what sin?
Well that's as far away
as the east is from the west
What sin, what sin?
It was gone the very minute you confessed
Buried in the sea of forgetfulness

The heaviest thing you'll carry
Is a load of guilt and shame
You were never meant to bear them
So let them go in Jesus name
Our God is slow to anger
Quick to forgive our sin
So let Him put them under the blood
Don't bring them up again
Cause He'll just say

[Chorus]
What sin, what sin?
Well that's as far away
as the east is from the west
What sin, what sin?
It was gone the very minute you confessed
Buried in the sea of forgetfulness

Lord, please deliver me
from my accusing memory
Nothing makes me weak this way,
Then when I hear you say

[Chorus]
What sin, what sin?
Well that's as far away
as the east is from the west
What sin, what sin?
It was gone the very minute you confessed
Buried in the sea of forgetfulness
