the key

We can all probably quote verse 16 of this passage.

But I bet few of us even know the rest of the verses in that section.

Take a look at the rest of it - it's all about what brings about a redeemed connection...

John 3

16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him will not perish

        but have eternal life.

17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world,

but to save the world through him.

18 "There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him.

But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son.

19 And the judgment is based on this fact:

God's light came into the world,

but people loved the darkness more than the light,

           for their actions were evil.

20 All who do evil hate the light

and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.

21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.

So many people have asked me,"Will I got to hell if I ____________?"

I think what Jesus was saying to Nicodemus is pretty plain...

believing in God's Son as the One who is God's way of making a connection with Him possible is the key.

That's what gets us hooked up with God.

That's what gets us in the door.

Of course, believing in that kind of love & sacrifice on the part of Jesus demands one reaction...

     ...complete surrender to Him.

Now, when we get hooked up with the God of the universes, there's gonna be some significant behavior & heart changes as a result,

which would include getting rid of a LOT of sinful behaviors.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but the key here is believing in Jesus as our Savior.

And not believing in Him is eternally problematic.

What do you think?
