last minute instructions

When Paul writes his second letter to his "son in the faith", Timothy, he knows he is going to be executed soon.

So these are his "final instructions" to Timothy, someone Paul considered his son.

If any of us were writing out last letter to someone who we considered our child, we would probably be saying as much as we could to that person.

We'd be trying to fill in the caps of what we'd taught those children so far.

Here just a few things Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 2.

Maybe they not only apply to Timothy, who live is a very wicked world known as the Roman Empire, but also to us who live wherever we live...

things are pretty wicked no matter where we live these days.

2 Timothy 2

20
In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver,

and some are made of wood and clay.

The expensive utensils are used for special occasions,

and the cheap ones are for everyday use.

21 If you keep yourself pure,

you will be a utensil God can use for His purpose.

Your life will be clean,

and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.

22 Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts.

Instead, pursue righteous living,

     faithfulness,

     love,

     and peace.

Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.
