storms

Matthew 8

23
Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples.

24
Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake,

with waves breaking into the boat.

But Jesus was sleeping.

25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting,

"Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"

  26 Jesus responded,

"Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!"

Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves,

and suddenly there was a great calm.

  27 The disciples were amazed.

"Who is this man?" they asked.

"Even the winds and waves obey him!"

I wonder what the rest of the trip was like?

Be that was awkward!

Imagine being out on a lake in a boat big enough to hold 12 other people, & a storm comes up violent enough that it really does feel like y'all are gonna capsize & drown.

And then there's this guy in the back of the boat - asleep! - & one of you goes to wake up up.

I mean, it makes sense to do this, since He claims to be the son of God.

And you apprise Him of the situation.

And He gets up & basically tells the storm to calm down.

And it does!

Yeah...

Awkward...

Now, before we bag on the disciples, let's think a minute.

We all know who Jesus is.

We all know what He said, & told people about Himself.

We know He rose from the dead.

We KNOW that we know that we know that He is the son of God.

But how many of us, when a bad "storm" hits our life, we run around, acting like we have to wake up Jesus to our problems?

Like, as if Jesus doesn't know what's going on.

How many times do we forget that Jesus can & will stand up & tell the "storm" to calm down?

Yeah...

And what did Jesus say to the disciples, & to us?

"Why were you so afraid?"

Good question.

We all know the answer to it, don't we?
