idleness

Proverbs 12:11 Hard work means prosperity; only fools idle away their time.

...idle away their time.

I have a number of people around me right now who don't have a job. Who in this country doesn't?!

Many of them are not only having a hard time with the stress of not making or having any money, but are crashingly bored.

I was wondering if it would be insensitive to suggest that in the time they have out of work, maybe it would help them pass the time, & be constructive, as well as cut back on the boredom, if they'd volunteer somewhere?

When people are unemployed, it can be easy to become paralyzed with nothing to do. Getting out will free up a person's mind by mixing with people, doing something helpful, & just doing something other than sitting around the house.

Macon Outreach (at Mulberry Methodist) has a meal every day to people who need it. People can always use help serving it, Mondays - Fridays. Christ Church Episcopal does the same thing on Saturdays & Sundays.

Habitat for Humanity always needs help building the homes they are currently building.

The Salvation Army has 2 thrift stores that could use help sorting, labeling, & pricing stuff.

That's just 3 things. There's plenty more. The most important thing is to get out & move around. Ya never know, you might hear of a job or something that could end this streak of unemployment.

Anybody got any other suggestions of volunteer things people could do?
